Praise
for Mielie handbags from Costume Designer for
High School Musical 3; Senior Year – Caroline B. Marx
Caroline
B. Marx first became aware of Mielie bags in Studio DNA
Salon in LA where they were on display;
“ I chose the Mielie handbags and jewellery for several reasons: I like
to use recyclable/sustainable products as much as I can both in my work and private
life and I believe in supporting free trade. This is also why Corbin Blue's character "Chad" has "Eco" messages
on his organic T's and he wears primarily organic and sustainable costumes throughout
the film which even include his jeans, socks, sneakers and Mielie wooden bracelets.
HSM3 is a global film and I felt this was a good message to spread. Many people
may not be aware that Disney is the first Hollywood studio to “Go Green”.
I like that Mielie was started as a company to help educate and support
African women who have been infected or affected by AIDS or health
problems such as epilepsy. I love the aspect that it enables these
women who cannot work in a 9-5 job, the ability to work from their
homes so they can now sustain themselves and provide for their children.
This is why I purchased the Mielie bags for the film. The fact that
they were amazing looking had a unique, hip "boho" feel
was the reason I chose them for Vanessa Hudgens "Gabriella" to
carry as her character transitions "grows up" as her fashion
style changes in the film. The two Mielie bags chosen the "Double
Daisy" and the "Wave" not only looked terrific with
the colours and unique designs complementing Gabriella's fashion
forward costumes but they also gave the character a cool "edge".
The bags are still in Disney's possession and as the costumes travel
they will continue to be on display with Gabriella's costume from
the film.”
